I believe that an important way of dealing with issues such as hunger is creating art or writing pieces that help spread awareness. This is what we did in our art class; created a piece of art that shows hunger and creates an impact. The statistic that I found that inspired my art was that "49 million Americans struggle to put food on the table." I thought it was important to call attention to the hunger that often goes unnoticed. To create my piece, I drew various figures on black construction paper and traced and shaded over them using white charcoal. I also smudged it a lot in create the effect that it was on a chalkboard. This piece creates an impact because the fact that it looks like a chalkboard shows that in places such as school, there can be people who are hungry. Two of the three faces are smiling and eating their lunches. However, the third nervously bites his finger nails upset that he has no food to eat but also embarrassed because he is not like the others. |
